Lifelong Learning

Wow! February 4th already?! I cannot believe how fast 2014 is flying by. It has definitely been an exciting year already for the Marquee Staffing IT Division. We have big dreams in mind and we are well on our way to achieving them.

There is an aspect of personal and professional growth that we here at Marquee Staffing, as a whole, hold in high respect – Education. Education is a great foundation for all aspects of your life and can help you achieve so much more than you ever thought possible. It teaches you commitment, time management, balance, failure, success – you name it. Education is the foundation for your professional life. There are various focuses in which to get your degree and further your education and we think they are all noble and admirable. As long as you are following your passion and creating your dream, we applaud you! Education continues after schooling and into the rest of your life. It instills in you a passion for lifelong learning, whether for professional development or personal growth. You really do learn something new every day!

In regards to degrees, Forbes has put together a list of degrees most likely to get job offers after college, according to data gathered by the National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE), which surveyed nearly 10,000 college seniors. Now, I’m not telling you that you have to major in any one of these things (remember, be passionate about your education and your life!), but it’s a brief overview of how education can get you to your ‘dream job’…  even if it’s not in one of these areas, of course. Salary is another factor all together, which I’ll cover next month!

Here is NACE’s list of academic majors, showing the percentage of student applicants who had at least one job offer by the time they graduated:

Computer Science: 68.7%
Economics: 61.5%
Accounting: 61.2%
Engineering: 59%
Business Administration: 54.3%
Sociology/Social Work: 42.5%
Mathematics/Statistics: 40.3%
Psychology: 39.2%
History/Political Science: 38.9%
Healthcare: 37.8%
Liberal Arts/Humanities: 36.8%
Biology: 35.2%
Communications/Journalism: 33.8%
English: 33%
Environmental Science: 30.5%
Education: 28.9%
Visual & Performing Arts: 27.8%

Tell me what you think about the percentage of college graduates getting job offers in these various degrees. Notice, Computer Science degrees are the highest with 68.7%. Looks like we found the right niche here at Marquee Staffing IT Division!
